The 'REAsteel W40' range of profiles
is
an evolutionary development of the
traditional hot rolled steel window.
The generic attributes of slim
sightlines, difficult to match in the
bulky profiles of other materials,
have been retained. The opening vents
incorporate the provision of dual air
seals.
The system was designed to accommodate
24mm sealed glass units. As most UK
applications have wind loading
requirements within the capacity of
4mm
glass, the benefits of higher
insulation values from a 16mm air
space
are available. The methods of glazing
permit the ventilation and drainage of
the glass unit perimeter and gasket
glazing can be available.
The system will allow the glass to be
offered to the frames from either the
inside or the outside.
The introduction of the dual
weatherseals has gone a long way
towards the improvements that have
been made. Extensive laboratory
testing was undertaken throughout all
stages of development and improvements
in the resistance to air and water
penetration are the result.
Composite assemblies of steel windows
are formed by joining single units to
each other using mullions and/or
transoms of appropriate dimensions to
provide support. Generally the
coupling bars take on a fin like
appearance, however, there can be
occasions when either for
strength, or as a feature, tubular
steel RHS profiles can be introduced.
After fabrication steel windows are
hot dip galvanised to BSEN ISO 1461
(1999) and, where specified, polyester
powder
coated to BS6497 in a wide range of
standard colours.
