CONTROL OF SUBSTANCES HAZARDOUS TO HEALTH

The current regulations place a responsibility on us to advise you of any substances known to be hazardous to health as defined in the regulations.

The scope of our work includes some or all of the following dependent up on individual contracts:-

a) Remove existing windows

b) Supply new windows

c) Supply fixings and sealants

d) Supply glass

e) Fix windows using fixings and sealants supplied

f) Glaze using glass supplied.

Our Analysis of the above in relation to COSHH is as follows:-

Remove existing windows a purely mechanical operation with no substances supplied by REA. Any dusts released into the atmosphere are obviously totally site dependent.

Supply new windows the windows supplied are manufactured from mild steel, hot dip galvanised and usually polyester powder coated. Furniture and fittings are made from mild steel or chrome plated brass.

The completed units have been custom made for the specific openings and there fore need no machining or alterations. The outer layer of either galvanising or polyester powder coating is stable and does not constitute any hazard under normal circumstances.

Supply fixings and sealants the fixings supplied consist of stainless steel screws, nuts, lugs, and plastic or fibre wall plugs, non of which constitute any hazard under normal circumstances.

The sealants supplied may be acrylic polymers acrylic emulsions, silicone or butyl based. None of these sealants are toxic. The normal sensible rules apply of washing hands after use, and if any mastic comes into contact with eyes, washing them with copious amounts of water.

Supply Glass. Glass is a stable substance and is not hazardous as defined within the COSHH regulation.

Fix and glaze when windows are fixed and glazed by our company personnel or our controlled sub-contractors the above listed materials are used and the finished state article is stable in that all fixings are secure and all mastics have skinned over. The finished article does not therefore constitute a hazard under the COSHH regulations.

We are able to supply, if requested by yourselves, health and safety leaflets for specific sealants supplied. As these are common throughout the building industry, they will be issued only when so requested.
