REA W20 Steel Windows

PHOTOGRAPH – Longlands Mill – Manchester

The ‘REAsteel W20’ range of hot rolled steel profiles was introduced in the early 1960’s and the first product of its type in the UK to incorporate provision for a neoprene weatherseal.

The slenderness of the profiles, especially of the intermediate glazing bar at 28mm, make this product range the most suitable for replicating the small and marginal paned fenestrations typical of the 1930’s (Georgian style windows).

W20 steel windows can accommodate sealed glass units up to 16mm thick, which can comply with Part L (England & Wales), Part J (Scotland) & Part F (Northern Ireland) of the current Building Regulation. All windows can be externally or internally beaded.

Composite window assemblies are formed by joining single units to each other using mullions and/or transoms of appropriate dimensions to provide support. Generally, the coupling bars take on a fin like appearance. There can, however, be occasions when either for strength, or as a feature, tubular steel RHS profiles can be introduced.

Custom made pressed metal sills, flashings and metal faced insulated infil panel are all available as options to supplement the basic framing.

After fabrication all profiles are hot dip galvanised to BS EN ISO 1461 (1999) and, where specified, polyester powder coated to BS6497 to a wide range of standard ral colours.
